Iron Deficiency: Clinical Sequelae and Diagnosis


Iron-deficiency anaemia (IDA) is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide. It is caused by dietary factors, chronic disease, or acute bleeding, and it may be refractory to iron supplementation. In this webcast, Photis Beris, MD, reviews pathogenesis, symptoms and signs, and diagnosis of this common condition.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for haematologists, medical oncologists, haematology-oncology specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the screening, evaluation, treatment, and management of adults and children with iron deficiency.

Learning Objectives


After participating in this activity, participants should be better able to:
  • List and discuss three factors that lead to iron-deficiency anaemia and describe its clinical manisfestations in order to select appropriate treatment.
  • Distinguish and describe three successive stages of iron deficiency in order to customize treatment and improve patient outcomes.
