Iron Overload Case Library, Case 1: Dose Adjustment/Non-Compliance in a Thalassaemia Patient
Optimal dose titration and patient adherence to treatment are critical factors in achieving prolonged patient survival and reduction in iron burden. This case of an adult thalassaemia patient illustrates some of the factors involved in treating a noncompliant patient and how to address these issues, including whether/when to adjust medication dosage.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for haematologists, medical oncologists, haematology-oncology specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the screening, evaluation, treatment, and management of adults and children with iron overload, resulting from the spectrum of chronic iron overload diseases.

Learning Objectives
After participating in this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Evaluate the need for dose adjustment of an iron chelator and patient adherence to achieve a balance between efficacy and side effects that ensures improved outcomes in thalassaemia patients.
