Overview of Myelodysplastic Syndromes with Focus on Iron
Myelodysplastic syndromes are a heterogeneous group of haematologic neoplasias with complex diagnostic and prognostic classifications. In this webcast, Dr. Norbert Gattermann lays the foundation for a clearer understanding of MDS by explaining its pathophysiology, the distinctions between lower-risk and higher-risk disease, and the mechanisms for iron overload. A central question in this presentation is how risk level influences treatment options, including chelation therapy.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for haematologists, medical oncologists, haematology-oncology specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the screening, evaluation, treatment, and management of adults and children with iron overload, resulting from the spectrum of chronic iron overload diseases.

Learning Objectives
After participating in this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Apply knowledge of the pathophysiology of myelodysplastic syndromes to identify the mechanisms of iron overload in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes.
- Evaluate the role of disease risk level in determining treatment options, including chelation therapy, in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes.
