Update on Iron Toxicity in Myelodysplastic Syndromes
Overall survival varies dramatically among patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Factors that predict survival include risk level, comorbidities, transfusion dependence, and serum ferritin levels. Organ toxicity, including cardiac toxicity, due to iron overload also influences survival. Please join Drs. Giagounidis and Roghi to learn about the impact of iron overload on survival and cardiac function in MDS and the potential role of iron chelation in prolonging survival.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for haematologists, medical oncologists, haematology-oncology specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the screening, evaluation, treatment, and management of adults and children with iron overload, resulting from the spectrum of chronic iron overload diseases.
|
Learning Objectives
After participating in this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Assess the roles of transfusion dependence, iron overload, and clinical sequelae of iron toxicity on survival in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes, and evaluate the potential impact of iron chelation therapy on survival.
