MedImage Cases®: Diagnosing and Monitoring of Liver Iron Concentration and Cardiac Iron Burden
With the availability of new MRI methodologies for assessing iron concentration, physicians caring for patients at risk of iron overload now have new tools for diagnosing and monitoring iron overload. Join Dr. Antonis Kattamis as he compares serum ferritin and MRI methodologies in assessing iron overload (cardiac and hepatic) and response to iron chelation therapy in patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemia, sickle cell disease, and thalassaemia major.
- Evaluate and compare MRI methodologies for assessing cardiac and liver iron concentrations in comparison with serum ferritin levels to improve diagnosis and monitoring of iron overload and determine response to chelation therapy in patients with NTDT, TDT and SCD.
