Iron Overload and Chelation Therapy in Patients with Non-Transfusion-Dependent Thalassaemia
This webcast describes non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemia (NTDT) syndromes and introduces the Thalassaemia International Federation's guidelines for the management of iron overload in patients with NTDT. The presentation will discuss the definition and spreading global prevalence of NTDT, the mechanisms underlying iron overload in NTDT, methods for assessment, and recent data on treatment.
- Summarize the definition and spreading global prevalence of nonâtransfusion-dependent thalassaemia (NTDT).
- Distinguish mechanisms and consequences of iron overload in NTDT from those in transfusion-dependent thalassaemia.
- Apply the 2013 guidelines of the Thalassaemia International Federation for managing iron overload in patients with NTDT.
